For the past ten years, 72 acres of pristine land has been set aside in Boxborough – not just any land – but the highest ranked environmental Open Space (as ranked by the Conservation Commission). Residents from all parts of Boxborough have worked to make something of this Open Space and have adopted the parcel – by unofficial “public domain” so to speak, to make it a wonderful resource for the entire town to enjoy.
….from the local farmer that mows the field…. ….to Boy Scouts who make trail benches... ….from the Great Blue Heron that fly majestically overhead…. ….to ABRHS students that remove invasive plants…. ….from the local resident who donated $1MM worth of land adding to Flagg Hill…. ….to the fox family living in a secret den hidden among the tall pines…. ....from neighborhood kids who slide down the hill in winter…. ….to deer that prance and roam throughout the parcel…. ....from the snowblower crew that clears the ice for hockey and skating.... ….to the ConsCom & LansCom that maintain the trails…. ….and the Barred Owl that serenades the area at night with its Hoo, Hooo, Hooooo’s….
Hundreds of hikers, baby strollers, dog walkers, joggers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, environmentalists and others that use Flagg Hill monthly are asking their friends and neighbors, like you, to help preserve this wonderful Open Space and protect the diverse wildlife that makes the Flagg Hill Nature Area so vibrant.
Months ago, Boxborough's Government proposed selling part of this diverse area to developers to be able to buy other land more suited to office buildings and municipal activities…and we respectfully disagree. It would be like selling part of Walden Pond to buy a parking lot.
More than half of the 72 acres is already designated Conservation and supporters of Flagg Hill have banded together to bring an Article to Town Meeting in Boxborough on May 12 at 7 PM, to convert the rest of the land from Municipal to Conservation – protecting this important natural resource from future development.
We will probably never be able to add 30 plus acres to the Town’s Conservation Open Space so inexpensively – we already own it – so there is ZERO cost to the town. If we allow any of Flagg Hill to be developed it will be lost forever…. |

The residents that support the idea of preserving Flagg Hill have put forth the idea to convert the entire parcel into Conservation Land – an idea that already exists in everything but the name. At a Special Town Meeting on Monday, May 12th at the Blanchard School at 7PM, the town can come out to vote YES making the Flagg Hill Open Space land 100% Conservation Land.
The alternative is that the current Town government may sell off several lots of this pristine land to developers to build houses where fox dens, owl roosts, old oak, maple and giant pine trees reside. The network of hiking trails and the "Green" Space will be irrevocably lost forever. Please help your neighbors that are concerned about Boxborough’s Open Spaces and environment to stop this development.
VOTE YES AT THE SPECIAL TOWN MEETING MAKING ALL OF FLAGG HILL CONSERVATION LAND!!
